Here is a mistake we see all the time. A Scottsdale homeowner redoes the kitchen, lays new pavers out back, and plants fresh desert landscaping. Then they call a pool builder. A few weeks later, a dig crew needs to drive heavy equipment right over the new patio to reach the yard.

A pool is the heaviest and messiest part of any outdoor project. Trucks, dirt piles, steel, and gunite hoses all need a clear path. That is why the pool should be planned first, even if it gets built in the middle of your remodel. Get this order right and you protect every dollar you spend on the rest of the home.

Plan the Path Before Anything Gets Poured

Start with access. How wide is your side gate? Will a block wall need to come down and go back up? Where do your gas, water, and power lines run? A good builder will walk the lot with you and answer these questions on day one.

Some older Scottsdale lots still rely on septic systems, and a pool cannot sit on top of a drain field. If your home is one of them, a call to one of Scottsdale's best septic companies should happen before your builder sketches a single line.

What We Looked For in Each Builder

We did not just pick names from a map. Each builder on this list was judged on things that matter during a full home remodel:

• Arizona ROC licensing that is easy to find and verify
• A clear warranty you can read before you sign
• Design help that fits the Sonoran Desert climate and style
• Pricing clarity, such as set packages or quick quotes
• Local roots, with a real presence in the Valley
• Remodel know-how, including tight access and working around other trades

The first two picks earned the top spots because they show their work openly. The rest are well known names that round out your shortlist.

1. Dolphin Pool Builders

Our top pick is Dolphin Pool Builders, and the reason is simple: they make it easy to know what you are getting. Their ROC licenses are listed right at the top of their site, numbers #094365, #352932, #352933, and #361088. That kind of openness is exactly what you want from a crew that will be digging up your yard.

What makes Dolphin a strong fit for remodels is their set of pool packages. You can pick from Paradise Plunge, Paradise Essentials, Paradise Plus, and Ultimate Paradise. Packages help a lot when you are juggling a kitchen budget, a flooring budget, and a pool budget all at once. You start with a clear base and add only what you want.

They also give you plenty to think through before you commit. Their site covers pool shapes, pool sizes, water features, and in-floor cleaning systems. There is a full pool gallery plus a custom features gallery, so you can point to real examples during your design talk.

Dolphin also posts its warranty in plain view and shares the community groups it supports. For a project this big, those small signs of trust add up. To ask a question or get an estimate, you can reach them at (602) 536-9409.

Best For

Homeowners who want clear packages, open licensing, and a builder who makes the planning stage feel simple.

2. BD Pool Builders

Coming in second is BD Pool Builders, also known as BD Pools and Spas. Their Scottsdale work leans into a look that blends modern design with the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert. If your remodel has a clean, upscale style, their approach will feel right at home.

BD has a Scottsdale showroom you can visit in person, which is a real plus. Seeing finishes and materials up close beats guessing from a screen. Their site also offers a "Design My Dream Pool" tool and a quick quote form, so you can get a rough idea of cost early in your planning.

They share a project gallery and a blog, and they say thousands of homeowners have chosen them to build their pools. For anyone who likes to research before they meet, that is a lot of helpful material.

Best For

Homeowners who want a luxury desert look and like to see materials in a showroom first.

3. Presidential Pools, Spas and Patio

Presidential is a long-standing Arizona name that handles more than just the pool. That broader focus can help when your remodel includes patio work, outdoor living areas, or backyard upgrades all at once.

4. California Pools

California Pools is a large builder with a big footprint across the Southwest. They are a good option if you want a company with deep resources and lots of finished projects to study.

5. Paddock Pools

Paddock has built pools in the Phoenix area for many years. They are known for a wide range of styles, from simple family pools to more custom designs.

6. Shasta Pools and Spas

Shasta is another established Valley builder with a long history in Arizona backyards. Homeowners often look to them for steady project management and a broad design range.

7. Premier Pools and Spas

Premier is a national brand with local teams in the Valley. They offer a mix of design styles and can be a solid pick if you want a well-known name behind your build.

A new pool also changes how you use the back of your house. Big glass doors and windows suddenly face your best view, so many owners pair the pool with new openings. If that sounds like you, our picks for Scottsdale windows done right can help you match the inside to the outside.

Five Questions That Reveal a Builder Fast

Your first meeting tells you a lot. Skip the small talk about tile colors and ask the questions that show how a builder handles a real remodel.

First, ask how they will get into your yard. A good answer includes the gate, the walls, and any repairs after. Second, ask who pulls the permits. The builder should handle this, not you. Third, ask how they work with other trades. Your electrician, landscaper, and paver crew all need a turn, and the pool builder should know when.

Fourth, ask what the warranty covers and for how long. Get it in writing. Fifth, ask for a rough timeline that shows digging, steel, gunite, plaster, and fill dates. Vague answers on any of these are a warning sign.

Smart Moves While the Pool Goes In

The pool phase is a great time to finish other projects that do not need yard access. Indoor painting, cabinet work, and flooring can keep moving while the dig crew works outside.

Think about heat and glare, too. A sparkling pool bounces strong Arizona sun straight into your living room. Many homeowners add shades during this stage, and the sun-smart blinds companies we trust can help keep rooms cool without hiding the view.

Finally, save hardscape and planting for last. Once the heavy trucks are gone for good, your pavers, turf, and desert plants can go in without risk of damage. This one choice protects more money than almost any other step in the whole remodel.

Your Backyard, Built in the Right Order

The best pool builders in Scottsdale do more than dig a hole and fill it with water. They plan access, protect the work you have already paid for, and fit into your remodel like one more skilled trade. Dolphin Pool Builders leads this list with clear packages, posted licenses, and an open warranty. BD Pool Builders follows close behind with its desert luxury style and a showroom you can walk through, while Presidential, California Pools, Paddock, Shasta, and Premier give you strong backup options.

Whoever you choose, remember the step most people skip: plan the pool before anything else gets finished outside. Ask the five key questions, line up your other trades around the dig, and leave pavers and plants for the very end. Do that, and your Scottsdale remodel ends with a backyard that looks finished, works well, and stays beautiful for years.
